John “Thad” Bates of Cullman passed away May 6, 2019 at the age of 91.
He was born June 1, 1927 in Cullman to Robert Lemuel and Mamie Trimble Bates.
He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Billie Mae Guthrie Bates, sister Myrtle Hendrix, brothers William Thomas Bates, Billy Bates, Grady Bates, Jack Bates, Terry Bates, Henry Wayne Bates.
Mr. Bates was a veteran of The United States Army.
Funeral services are Thursday, May 9, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Moss Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Campbell officiating. Interment will be in Shedd Cemetery. There will be a Masonic graveside service.
Survivors are sisters Viva Johnson and Dorothy Hancock of Cullman, brothers Frank (Vivian) Bates of Allen, Texas, Robert (Janice) Bates of Cullman, special friends Ray and Brenda Brown and family, a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Wednesday, May 8, 2019 at Moss Funeral Home from 5:30 p.m. until 8 p.m.
