DECATUR – The Cullman Bearcats were able to up their season record to 2-2 (1-1, 6A, Region 8) when they overpowered the Austin Black Bears with a 13-7 victory.

The Bearcats were able to achieve the upper hand early on in the first quarter of the game on their first offensive drive with a score from the two yard line.

Cullman’s defense was able to hold Austin’s offense throughout the entirety of the game, forcing the Black Bears to punt a total of six times, and obtained one sack on the quarter back, Brandon Schreiber. Austin’s defense mirrored Cullman’s with the same six turn overs and one sack.

As the end of the first half of the game was approaching, the Bearcats were at the eight yard line with only seconds to go on the clock and another touchdown right in front of them. After receiving the punt from the Bearcats, they fumbled the ball on second down, which was recovered by Cullman; Austin had lost their confidence.

With Austin’s confidence hanging on by a thread, Cullman was able to complete a final touchdown at the start of the fourth quarter, bringing the score to 13-7.

Austin wasn’t ready to give up, though. They fought hard against the Bearcats but were unable to catch up to them, ending the game with the final score of 13-7, Cullman victorious
