CULLMAN, Ala. –Drivers heading downtown this week should plan around street and parking closures for Cullman Oktoberfest, with some restrictions continuing after the Oct. 1-4 celebration ends.  Second Avenue Northeast will remain open throughout the festival.  Depot Drive, between the historic train depot and Depot Park, closed Sept. 26 at 10 p.m. and is scheduled to reopen Wednesday, Oct. 7, at 5 p.m.  The museum parking area and First Avenue Northeast between the museum and Festhalle closed Sept. 27 at 11 p.m. Both are scheduled to reopen Monday, Oct. 5, at 11 p.m.  Additional closures are scheduled Monday, Sept. 28:  • Arnold Street Northeast closes at 8:30 a.m. and reopens Sunday, Oct. 4, at 11 p.m.  • First Avenue Northeast west of Clark Street, the Warehouse parking lot and Clark Street Northeast close at 11 p.m. and reopen Monday, Oct. 5, at 11 p.m.  Motorists should follow barricades and posted signs, watch for pedestrians and allow extra travel time during setup, festival activities and cleanup.  Visitors should plan to park outside the closed areas and walk to the festival. Avoid blocking driveways, business entrances or emergency access, and check parking restrictions before leaving a vehicle.  The official festival site map identifies accessible parking locations along Second Avenue Northeast, along with festiva entrances, restrooms and first aid.  Oktoberfest will take place at Depot Park and the surrounding downtown festival grounds. General admission is free.   Festival hours are 4-10 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 1; 10 a.m.-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Oct. 2-3; and noon-8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 4.  Drivers returning downtown after the celebration should check the reopening schedule before taking their usual routes.   The festival’s Sunday closing does not mark the end of all street and parking restrictions.  (City of Cullman)
