
CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman City Councilman Clint Hollingsworth announced at Monday’s council meeting that he will not seek reelection to his seat, and that he will run for the District 12 seat in the Alabama House of Representatives being vacated by Rep. Corey Harbison, R-Good Hope. Hollingsworth will complete the current term. In attendance at the meeting, Paul Schaffer introduced himself to the council as a candidate for Hollingsworth’s seat..
Following the announcement, Council President Jenny Folsom shared the City’s quarterly financial report, noting that General Fund revenues have increased by 6.1% over this point last year, while expenses have dropped by 3.4%. Sales taxes revenue is up by 9.7%, building permits have almost doubled and internet sales tax revenue is up 15.9%. Revenues from beer/wine tax, court fines and tobacco tax all dropped. Cullman County’s unemployment rate for the quarter was reported at 3.1%
The council also approved:
- A special event request from Katie Walker of the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce to hold the annual 2nd Friday events on June 13, July 11 and Aug. 6, 2025
- An ordinance to rezone the Coots property located on Marie Street Northwest from R-3 to R-4 Residential, allowing for the construction of duplexes
- An ordinance to annex the Blackwood property on County Road 499 as an R-1 Residential District
The Cullman City Council meets next on Monday, May 12, at 7 p.m. in the Cullman City Hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
