HANCEVILLE, Ala.- It was a gorgeous afternoon for a city council meeting. The Hanceville City Council met Thursday for their regularly scheduled council meeting and in keeping with the guidelines set forth by Governor Kay Ivey, Mayor Kenneth Nail decided to hold the meeting outside with all in attendance carefully spaced six feet apart.

Friday morning at the Hanceville Civic Center, Jack’s will be giving out biscuits starting at 9 a.m. This will be done through a drive-up procedure so please remain in your car. Volunteers will be wearing gloves and masks and taking all protective measures.

The business end of the meeting was short, but the council did approve the mayor to sign the Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) Engineering Agreement. GMC is the engineering firm for the gutters and repaving project on Commercial Street. The project is part of Governor Kay Ivey’s Rebuild Alabama Act Annual Grant Program.

The council also approved paying the $2300 invoice to Terracon Consultants for work performed at the site in preparation for the soon to be built Hanceville Senior Center.

Hanceville Assistant Fire Chief Bart Absher reported a decrease in calls for the department due to new protocols put into place to limit emergency personnel to possible exposure to Covid-19. The 911 call-center has begun dispatching the ambulance services to all general sick calls, thus decreasing the fire departments call volume.

Free landfill pick-up is still scheduled for the week of April 20-24. All items must be placed outside by noon on the 24th. Household garbage, batteries, gas tanks, tires, paint, shingles and hazardous materials will not be accepted.

The next Hanceville City Council meeting is scheduled for April 9 at 6pm.
