CULLMAN, Ala. – Saturday morning, county schools around Cullman were visited by members of the Christian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and the Alabama Sons of Liberty Riders (AL-SoLR) during their 2019 Prayer and Pledge Ride. Starting at Harmony School, the riders visited Cold Springs, Good Hope, Hanceville, Welti, Holly Pond, Parkside, Fairview, Vinemont, West Point and the Cullman County Child Development Center to pray and say the Pledge of Allegiance at each school.
The riders encouraged school administrators and teachers, as well as members of local churches, to join them at each school’s main flagpole. The schools each received prayers for safety and success for both students and teachers, in addition to signs signifying that the CMA and AL-SoLR prayed and pledged at the site in support of First Amendment rights: the right to freely choose and practice one’s religion, the right to peaceful assembly, freedom of speech and the press without government interference and the right to petition the government to remedy grievances.
The ride saw a large outpouring of community support throughout the day, receiving gratitude from school faculty.
Steve Miller, principal at Holly Pond High School, said the riders’ visit just added to an already-good day for the school.
“Personally, I am excited anytime people take time out of their busy schedules to come and pray for us. It’s refreshing to know that people are thinking about us and care enough to pray for us,” Miller commented. “We had a church group from Holly Pond First Baptist come to do a work day today, and they did much-needed finishing touches on our campus. Also, Desperation Church had a group come in and just walk around campus praying for our students and staff. The bikers just came in and also took time to pray for the students and staff. It was a great day to be at Holly Pond School.”
The CMA and AL-SoLR will be holding another Prayer & Pledge Ride, this one for Morgan County schools, Saturday, Aug. 10. They will start at West Morgan High School at 8 a.m. and end at Sparkman at 12:45 p.m. The full schedule of stops can be found at www.facebook.com/events/173346543568911/, though the schedule may vary depending on traffic and weather conditions.
