CULLMAN – Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) will make its annual stop in Cullman next week. The group will be in town from Jan. 21-26 to put on “The Pied Piper.” The production will include area children, ages 5-18, with auditions held on Jan. 21 at 3:30 p.m. at the Cullman Civic Center.

The theatrical company has come to Cullman annually for more than 20 years in partnership with Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism (CPRST).

MCT’s “The Pied Piper” is an original musical adaptation of the classic children’s tale, written by Jim Caron with music by Bob Hubley, additional dialog by Steven Thomas and Michelle Nigh, and additional music by Michael McGill.

What do you do when your town is overrun by ravenous rats? Sara, an orphan girl, and the other townspeople of Hamelin Town turn to the mayor of Hamelin and the council when their town is threatened. They then call on the Pied Piper to save them from the troublesome creatures. The mayor's children, staff and the cooks also join in the endeavor. Find out what happens when the town chooses not to pay the Piper and the children are led away from the town along with the rats!

Among the roles to be cast are the Pied Piper, Sara, the mayor's kids, the mayor's council, the Hamelin Administrative Team (HAT), barbers, cooks, townskids and the troublesome rats. Students, grades Kindergarten through 12th grade, are encouraged to audition. No advance preparation is necessary. Assistant directors will also be cast to assist with the technical aspects of the production.

Auditions for the musical production will be held on Monday, Jan. 21, at 3:30 p.m. at the Cullman Civic Center. No preregistration is required. The Missoula Children's Theatre touring productions are complete with costumes, scenery, props and makeup. MCT Tour Actor/Directors will conduct rehearsals with selected actors, who will rehearse for the remainder of the week. The fee is $40 (only if cast). All practices will be held after school hours. Performances will be held on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m. and 6 p.m.
