CULLMAN, Ala. – Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) recently announced its 2023 Schools of Distinction. In Cullman County, Parkside Elementary School and the Cullman Area Technology Academy (CATA) earned the distinction.

Specifically, CATA’s Utility Line Worker Program and Parkside’s counseling program were recognized.

“The CLAS School of Distinction Award recognizes school programs that serve as outstanding educational models for other schools in Alabama. These exemplary schools/programs will be recognized at an awards luncheon in May. At the awards luncheon, the CLAS Banner School for each district will be named,” read a press release announcing the list.

In all, 32 schools across the state were named.

“Congratulations to these wonderful Alabama public schools. The CLAS Schools of Distinction provide excellent examples of the significant learning opportunities taking place in public education in Alabama. Further, the stakeholders at every School of Distinction are to be commended for striving for excellence daily,” said CLAS Executive Director Dr. Vic Wilson.

Cullman County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette said with pride, “It was a privilege to nominate a few of our school programs for this award, and I was extremely excited to hear that these two schools were recognized. They both are well-deserving of this honor.”
