HANCEVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville is bringing back its popular Mud Creek Arts & Crafts Festival Saturday, Oct. 15, along Commercial Street in downtown Hanceville from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The arts and craft show is scheduled before the Mud Creek Marching Festival competition this year to allow residents and visitors to attend both festivities with greater ease.

Dozens upon dozens of vendors from all over the state will be lining the street, and shops will have open doors for shoppers looking for treasures or to make new friends. Local city leaders will be mingling and helping with the festival as well.

Trinity Lutheran Church on Commercial Street will be serving a German lunch with bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut or red cabbage, dessert and drink for $10. Children’s plates will be available for $5. The menu in the more than 100-year-old church will be offered from 10:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. or until plates run out. Visitors are invited to dine in the 1885 building and tour the present-day worship sanctuary.

Late Hanceville Councilwoman and Civitan Club leader Joann Walls was the architect behind the first Mud Creek Festival in hopes of bringing well-deserved attention to the charm and offerings of downtown Hanceville to a wider audience. Walls helped organize many of the ensuing celebrations before her passing in 2017 at age 84.

Proceeds from Mud Creek were donated to the Hanceville schools in previous years. In 2021, Hanceville’s Irish Festival and Mud Creek Festival presented $3,500 to Hanceville High School. This year the proceeds will go toward community improvement.

The 31st Annual Mud Creek Marching Festival, a high school marching band competition, will be held  Saturday, Oct. 22.
