CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman High School Performing Arts is set to stage its production of “Grease: School Version”based on the beloved musical that has captivated audiences for decades. Performances are scheduled for Thursday and Friday, April 18-19, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, April 20, at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Cullman High School auditorium.

“Grease: School Version” is a full-length musical comedy by Warren Casey and Jim Jacobs. Good girl Sandy and greaser Danny fall for each other during a carefree summer fling. But when the school year begins, Danny is torn between his feelings for good-girl Sandy and his image with the Burger Palace Boys and the Pink Ladies. Will they be able to rekindle their romance, or is the pressure of one’s peers going to get the better of them?

“Grease”first hit Broadway in 1972, quickly soaring to fame and subsequently becoming a hit film classic starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. This production closely mirrors the original Broadway musical but also includes all the hit songs from the movie, transporting audience members back to the 1950s in a full-scale musical celebration.

Featured songs include classics like “Summer Nights,” “Freddy, My Love,” “Greased Lightning,” “Look at Me, I’m Sandra Dee,” and “Beauty School Dropout,” along with movie hits such as “Sandy,” “Hopelessly Devoted” and “You’re the One I Want.” With its massive dance numbers and iconic musical moments, this event promises to be an exhilarating experience for all attendees.

The production is designed to be family friendly, making it a perfect outing for viewers of all ages.

“This production is for all ages. The school version makes it friendly to family attendance. We believe the parents and grandparents who loved ‘Grease’ will now share it with their children,” said CHS Theatre Director Wayne Cook.

Tickets for the show are priced at $12 for general admission and $5 for students. Proceeds from ticket sales not only help fund this production, but also support Cullman High’s theater program. This effort is further boosted by the generous contributions from local businesses and community sponsors.

“We are excited about presenting ‘Grease’as this is a show that people have been asking us to do for years. We are finally able to make that happen. We all remember the movie. Many do not realize that it all actually started with Broadway stage production. We know people love Grease and we know they are going to love this production,” said Cook.

Cook’s excitement went beyond the musical nostalgia, highlighting the talent of the students and the vast number of hours and preparation put into this show, “People should come to see ‘Grease’because these kids playing these parts are amazing. They can dance, sing and act. We have also spent a lot of time designing sets, designing lights, planning costumes and props. We have done this in such a way to bring you the best possible production. I think those who attend will be amazed and blown away. We hope everyone will come out and bring a friend along. I am excited to present a production that is iconic Broadway. Come see ‘Grease.’”
