CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Caring for Kids (CCK) on Monday began putting out blue ribbons to kick off Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in the Cullman area.  The nonprofit was joined by members of the Hurricane Creek chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse (BACA).

BACA is an international child advocacy organization in the form of a motorcycle club whose mission statement says that it  “exists with the intent to create a safer environment for abused children. We exist as a body of bikers to empower children to not feel afraid of the world in which they live . . . We desire to send a clear message to all involved with the abused child that this child is part of our organization, and that we are prepared to lend our physical and emotional support to them by affiliation and our physical presence.  We stand at the ready to shield these children from further abuse.”

CCK Assistant Director Nancy Bryant said, “Today is the day we start April Child Abuse Awareness Month, and we’re going to begin this month by putting up our blue bows up and down Highway 31 and 278.  Some of the businesses will allow us to put up bows on their doors, and we will have signs that will say, ‘Help stop child abuse. Join us and help us to stop child abuse,’ because the blue does represent the bruises on our children. We want to stop that; we want to make sure that our children are safe.  BACA has joined forces with us, and we’re so excited and so happy to have them join us this month to make the impact that we hope we can.”
